Tequila Sunrise (1988)

I sat down on Saturday night, fired up some streaming service and this was one of the first selections I saw.  With Mel Gibson and Kurt Russell leading the way, I thought it could only be so bad.  The description was intriguing as well, and when you throw in Michelle Pfeifer it was an easy decision to press play.

Here's the synopsis from Google:

In a seaside California town, best friends Mac (Mel Gibson) and Nick (Kurt Russell) are on opposite sides of the law. Mac is a former drug dealer trying to clean up his act, while Nick is a high-profile detective trying to take down a Mexican drug lord named Carlos (Raul Julia). Soon Nick's loyalties are put to the test when he begins an affair with restaurateur Jo Ann (Michelle Pfeiffer) -- a love interest of Mac's -- unwittingly leading his friend into a police-orchestrated trap.

I thought Gibson and Russell both played their parts very well and played off of each other nicely too.  The plot was ok with Gibson's character wanting out of the drug trafficking business, but being forced to bring in one more load, while his friend (Russell) is a narcotics cop trying to bring him down.  Pfeifer played the on-again-off-again love interest of each in a romantic triangle and was very eloquent in her performance.

Overall though, the plot had holes in it, and some of the character decisions didn't make sense.  These things kept me from giving it a better rating, but it wasn't bad for a Saturday-night popcorn flick.
